Fails to make lightning strike twice

December 15, 2018
Primus lost to Michael Chandler via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) at Bellator 212 on Friday in Honolulu.
ANALYSIS
In their first fight, Primus shocked the world and took home the Bellator title. However, the first win was due to an injury to Chandler, and many expected him to run through Primus in this fight. Primus was much more of a challenge, but Chandler still walked out as champion. Primus was the better striker at range, and he made Chandler pay with kicks. In the second round, he scored a knockdown and nearly finished via submission. However, Chandler survived and went to his wrestling. Primus had no answers and dropped the decision. Primus is still relatively young in his career and could easily fight his way back to a title.

Underdog in first title defense
LightweightPFL
December 11, 2018
Primus (knee) is a (+375) underdog for Saturday's Bellator Lightweight Title fight against Michael Chandler.
ANALYSIS
Primus came through as a hefty betting underdog the first time the two fought back at Bellator 180 in June of 2017, picking up a win via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 2:22 of Round 1. Many will call this win a little bit fluky, as Chandler suffered a lower leg injury early that rendered him barely able to stand, let alone fight. Chandler has since returned to pick up two consecutive wins under the Bellator banner, while Primus has been on the sidelines since then due to a knee injury. The current champion remains undefeated as a professional, but oddsmakers predict that streak will end Friday in Honolulu.
Pulls out of title defense with knee injury

Primus suffered a knee injury and has withdrawn from his first title defense against Michael Chandler on April 13, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Primus caught a break as a heavy underdog when he faced Chandler for the first time, as Chandler suffered a fluky ankle injury that ultimately resulted in a doctor stoppage. The result was Primus earning the belt, but given the unique circumstances surrounding his win, an immediate rematch was in store. That rematch will have to wait an unspecified period of time, as the details around Primus' knee injury were not disclosed. In the meantime, Chandler will instead face Brandon Girtz in the main event of Bellator 197, though it will not be for a title.
Adds rematch against Chandler

Primus will take on Michael Chandler for the Bellator lightweight championship in St. Charles, Missouri on April 13, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
When the two met up for a chance at the championship in June, Primus walked away with the title due to an ankle injury that Chandler sustained in Round 1. In a highly anticipated move, we will receive a rematch less than a year later. Since that bout, Chandler defeated Goiti Yamauchi via unanimous decision last weekend, while Primus has remained on the sidelines. The defending champion will bring his perfect 8-0 career record up against Chandler's 17-4 mark.
Wins Bellator lightweight title via injury
LightweightPFL
June 24, 2017
Primus defeated Michael Chandler via TKO (ankle injury) at 2:22 of Round 1 at Bellator 180 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
This is probably not the way someone wants to win a world title, but Primus walked out of the cage in New York City a champion. Chandler hurt his ankle stepping backwards, and he was clearly hurt. Primus went to his leg kicks, and Chandler simply could not put any weight on the ankle. Chandler landed a hard shot on one leg, but the referee stopped the bout to check the injury. This is not allowed, but the doctor ultimately stopped the fight. There will obviously be a rematch of this fight.
Gets a shot at Bellator gold

March 23, 2017
Primus will take on Michael Chandler for the Bellator lightweight championship at Bellator 180 on June 24 in New York, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Primus isn't a household name, but the promotion will give him a chance to take a step towards becoming one on their biggest stage. The 31-year-old is 7-0 in his professional career, due largely in part to consecutive split-decision wins over middle-tier contenders. Chandler will easily be his toughest test to date.
