FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Goalie

Marc-Andre Fleury, VGK at WAS ($8,600): Fleury has been tremendous for the surprising Golden Knights with a 14-4 record, .942 save percentage and a 1.79 goals against average. There is a great deal of upside here for the veteran, but the play does come with some risk. Washington has scored four or more goals in each of their last three games. I'm willing to take a shot with Fleury, who has allowed fewer than three goals in six of his last seven outings while posting a 1.71 goals against average over that stretch.

Center

Paul Byron, MTL vs OTT ($4,400): The Canadiens' top-line center shapes up as a good value facing the Senators, who have struggled up the middle of late. They have allowed the most fantasy points to the position over the last month, including three goals to centers against the Flyers on Saturday.

Derek Ryan, CAR vs SJ ($4,100): Ryan is an interesting play skating on the third line for Carolina against the Sharks, who've allowed 14 goals and 21 assists to centers over their last 12 games. Ryan averages the fourth-most high danger scoring chances among centers in the NHL with a mark of 5.13 — for reference, Connor McDavid is third with 5.26 iHDSC/60. Ryan and linemate Jeff Skinner make for a high-upside value pairing. They skate together at full strength and on the power play.

Wing

Jeff Skinner, CAR vs SJ ($5,700): The Sharks have not only been allowing production to centers, but the left wing position has had a great deal of success against them of late as well. They've allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to the position over the last month. The sniper has just one goal over his last four games but has averaged four shots on goal per game over that span. The Toronto native is averaging 5.81 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes this season, which is sixth among left wingers.

Mike Hoffman, OTT at MTL ($6,300): Hoffman's production is down a bit from last season, but he's in a good spot here. Much of the Ontario native's misfortunes can point to his shooting percentage, which is at 7.4% this season — a massive dropoff from the previous three seasons in which he produced percentages of 11.6, 12, and 13.6 percent, respectively — suggesting he's due for positive regression. He has a point in two of his last three games and is a good bet to produce Sunday against Montreal, who surrenders 3.12 goals per game.

Tomas Hertl, SJ at CAR ($5,100): The 24-year-old left winger is producing on the first line and top power-play unit of late for the Sharks. Skating with Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc, Hertl has a point in each of his last four games while Carolina has allowed the second-most fantasy points to left wingers over the last month. Hertl averages 6.31 high danger scoring chances per 60 minutes, which is the fifth-highest mark among all skaters in the league.

Defense

Jeff Petry, MTL vs OTT ($4,500): The nine-year pro is still garnering most of the sidelined Shea Weber's ice time. With two goals on Saturday against the Ducks, Petry has three goals over his last four games while averaging four shots on goal.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic, SJ at CAR ($4,400): Vlasic is finding good fortune of late with four goals over his last eight games. His production on the blue line goes deeper than just lighting the lamp: Vlasic has dished out four assists while averaging 3.25 blocked shots and 2.12 shots on goal over that eight game span. The Hurricanes have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to defensemen over the last month.
