FanDuel NHL: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Goalie

Mike Smith, CGY vs. MTL ($7,800): Smith has been a bit boom or bust this season, which falls right in line with the majority of his career action. He has 14 wins and a .919 save percentage with a goals against average of 2.47. The thing to know about Smith is that when he's on, he's virtually unbeatable. When he's not on, the opponent might as well be shooting at an empty net. This makes for a great tournament play based solely on the upside he brings alone. Give him a look against Montreal tonight, as they are averaging 2.74 goals per game tied for 24th in the NHL.

Center

Ryan O'Reilly, BUF vs. PHI ($5,400): The Flyers have allowed 14 goals and 21 assists in their last 12 games to centers. O'Reilly has gone scoreless in his last two games after a three-game point-scoring streak in which he had a goal and two assists. In his last four games against the Flyers, O'Reilly has a goal and four assists with 11 shots on goal. Skating on the second line and top power-play unit, O'Reilly has been a value all year and fits that category tonight.

Vincent Trocheck, FLA vs. MIN ($6,400): As the eight-highest priced center on this short slate, Trocheck will look to continue his strong play at home tonight. He has points in eight of his last nine games with four goals and eight assists over that span. He's averaging 3.26 shots on goal per game, the sixth-highest mark among centers and has six power play goals, fourth among centers. He's on the ice a ton, averaging 21 minutes per game in all situations.

Wing

Evgenii Dadonov, FLA vs. MIN ($4,900): In the four games he's played since returning from injury, Dadonov has three points, all assists and has been skating on the second line for the majority of the time. He has seven goals and 14 assists overall and makes for a nice addition with Trocheck as a low-salary high upside stack.

Charlie Coyle, MIN at FLA ($4,600): Coyle has been limited to just 18 games this season due to a fractured fibula, but the time he's spent on the ice has been solid. In those 18 games he has two goals and 10 assists for a total of 12 points. He has three assists in his last two games where he's been skating on the second line with Eric Staal and Nino Niederreiter.

Wayne Simmonds, PHI at BUF ($5,400): With a goal and an assists in his last game, Simmonds broke a three-game pointless draught. Skating on the first line with Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux, he has 11 goals and 10 assists to go along with five power-play goals. He's a major salary relief relative to Giroux who is $1,900 more expensive and for similar upside, I like Simmonds a ton tonight.

Defense

Jeff Petry, MTL vs. CGY ($4,000): With Shea Weber out indefinitely, Petry has picked up the slack with a goal and three assists in his last five games. He's skating on the point on the top power-play unit, normally a spot we'd see Weber in and had a goal on the man advantage on Tuesday against Vancouver. This is a good matchup for Perry against Calgary as the Flames have allowed 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) and 114 shots on goal to defensemen in their last 14 games.

Matt Niskanen, WAS at ARI ($4,400): While teammate John Carlson is an elite play, Niskanen is $1,300 less and in just as good of a spot tonight for the Capitals. Although they've been solid of late, the Coyotes have allowed defensemen to rack up 70 points (16 goals, 54 assists) in 33 games against them this season, combining for the fourth-most fantasy points allowed to the position in the league. He has 10 points, two goals and eight assists in 22 games this season, but has points in two of his last four games. He'll give you a good bang for your buck tonight.
