Weekly Rankings: Week 7 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday update complete.

BYE WEEKS: Detroit, Houston

Here are my rankings (if you want a second opinion, please see our formula-based projections - these are not tied into my rankings at all) for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: four points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. ***Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues.***

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it. If there is no such note, that means it's my first pass at the rankings for this current week.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?". And then

Quarterback

1.Tom Brady NE vs. Atl
2.Matt Ryan ATL at NE
3.Drew Brees NO at GB
4.Dak Prescott DAL at SF
5.Kirk Cousins WAS at Phi
6.Carson Palmer ARZ at LAR
7.*Cam Newton CAR at Chi
Note: (Shoulder) Limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Removed from the injury list Friday.***
8.*Marcus Mariota TEN at Cle
Note: Threw for 306 yards against the Colts, but doesn't have much mobility yet. Still, that should be enough to have a good matchup against the Browns. (Hamstring) Limited at practice Wednesday, as expected. ***Full practice Thursday.***
9.Carson Wentz PHI vs. Was
10.*Tyrod Taylor BUF vs. TB
Note: Great matchup this week, but without Charles Clay and Jordan Matthews.
11.Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. Cin
12.*Derek Carr OAK vs. KC
Note: Infrequently threw downfield in his return from his back injury, though he did have two plays with Amari Cooper called back. Now he gets a short week to prepare for the Chiefs.
13.Russell Wilson SEA at NYG
14.Alex Smith KC at Oak
15.Jared Goff LA vs. Ari
16.*Andy Dalton CIN at Pit
Note: (Ankle) Full practice Wednesday.
17.*Jameis Winston TB at Buf
Note: Suffered an AC joint sprain in the loss to the Cardinals. He's considered day-to-day and won't throw at all Wednesday. Didn't throw Thursday, either, but is expected to get all the first-team reps Friday. How he does Friday will determine whether he'll play. If he plays, I'd likely slot him 18th, ahead of Hundley and behind Rivers. ***Was able to practice Friday and will start.***
18.*Blake Bortles JAC at Ind
Note: ***Moving up with Fournette likely out - he'll have to do more, and it's against a bad pass defense.***
19.Philip Rivers LAC vs. Den
20.*Brett Hundley GB vs. NO
Note: Taking over for the injured Aaron Rodgers - the Packers appear as if they won't sign a replacement from outside the organization.
21.*Case Keenum MIN vs. Bal
Note: Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is cleared to practice but won't come off the PUP list yet. Sam Bradford is feeling better but might not practice Wednesday. I'd assume Keenum plays again this week.
22.*C.J. Beathard SF vs. Dal
Note: Taking over for Brian Hoyer after replacing him against the Redskins last week.
23.Josh McCown NYJ at Mia
24.*Trevor Siemian DEN at LAC
Note: Suffered a minor left shoulder sprain Sunday night. It's expected that he'll be able to play through it. Practiced without restrictions Wednesday.
25.Joe Flacco BAL at Min
Note: Averaged just 4.4 yards per attempt in the loss to the Bears.
26.Eli Manning NYG vs. Sea
Note: Averaged 40 passing attempts per game before Sunday night, had just 19 after all the WR injuries.
27.Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs. Car
28.*DeShone Kizer CLE vs. Ten
Note: Might get the starting job back - coach Hue Jackson will announce his decision Wednesday. My guess, and it's merely a guess, is that they'll go with Kizer. Named the starter for this week, and Cody Kessler will be the backup.
29.Jacoby Brissett IND vs. Jax
30.Jay Cutler MIA vs. NYJ
31.*Ryan Fitzpatrick TB at Buf
Note: Threw for 290 yards in relief of the injured Jameis Winston, who is day-to-day with an AC joint sprain. ***Winston will start.***
32.*Kevin Hogan CLE vs. Ten
Note: Total fizzle against the Texans, and might lose the starting job back to Kizer. Coach Hue Jackson will announce the starter Wednesday. (Ribs) Will be third-string this week, with Kizer starting ahead of Cody Kessler.
33.*Sam Bradford MIN vs. Bal
Note: (Knee) Feeling better after visiting a specialist in New York, but still unlikely to practice Wednesday. Did not practice Wednesday - status for this week, and really the rest of the season, remains murky. ***Officially out again this week.***
34.*Andrew Luck IND vs. Jax
Note: (Shoulder) Had a setback and will not practice this week.
35.*Aaron Rodgers GB vs. NO
Note: Rodgers suffered a broken right clavicle and will require surgery. It's not a done deal that he's out for the season, but it's close.

Running Backs

1.Le'Veon Bell PIT vs. Cin
2.*Ezekiel Elliott DAL at SF
Note: ***Granted his TRO, should be on the field at least this week. The order is good for at least 14 days, or until further proceedings on the merits of his case.***
3.Todd Gurley LA vs. Ari
4.Kareem Hunt KC at Oak
5.LeSean McCoy BUF vs. TB
6.Devonta Freeman ATL at NE
Note: Somehow Freeman received only nine carries, in a game where the Falcons were leading 17-0 at halftime.
7.Jordan Howard CHI vs. Car
Note: Howard had a whopping 36 carries in the win over the Ravens.
8.Jerick McKinnon MIN vs. Bal
Note: McKinnon's three fumbles over the last two games are the only negatives after two big fantasy results.
9.Doug Martin TB at Buf
10.Mark Ingram NO at GB
11.*Melvin Gordon LAC vs. Den
Note: (Shoulder) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Limited in practice all week, but expected to play, even though he's listed as questionable.***
12.LeGarrette Blount PHI vs. Was
13.*Jay Ajayi MIA vs. NYJ
Note: (Knee) Got a customary day off Thursday - full practice expected Friday. ***Full practice indeed on Friday, removed from the injury list.***
14.Carlos Hyde SF vs. Dal
Note: Coach Kyle Shanahan shot down any rumors that the Niners were looking to trade Hyde.
15.Adrian Peterson ARZ at LAR
Note: Ok, I (once again) doubted Peterson. But yeah, he has to at least be an RB2 now.
16.Marshawn Lynch OAK vs. KC
17.Christian McCaffrey CAR at Chi
18.C.J. Anderson DEN at LAC
19.*Chris Ivory JAC at Ind
Note: ***Expected to start this week with Fournette likely out.***
20.*Derrick Henry TEN at Cle
Note: ***Even with Murray's dicey status, this is still a tricky call. The setup is similar to the Seattle game, though Henry hurt his wrist in that Seattle game, leading to Murray getting more second half touches.***
21.Duke Johnson CLE vs. Ten
22.Aaron Jones GB vs. NO
23.Alvin Kamara NO at GB
24.Orleans Darkwa NYG vs. Sea
25.Chris Thompson WAS at Phi
Note: Had 16 carries, as opposed to only nine for Perine.
26.Isaiah Crowell CLE vs. Ten
27.Alex Collins BAL at Min
28.Dion Lewis NE vs. Atl
29.Joe Mixon CIN at Pit
30.*Rob Kelley WAS at Phi
Note: (Ankle) Didn't practice last week, but is expected to practice this week. Remember, however, that the Redskins don't play until Monday night, giving you fewer late swap opportunities. Limited at practice Thursday. If he gets in full practices later this week and is expected to play, I'd put him in around 35 or so, and drop Perine 20 spots. ***Expected to play (and start), but how many snaps will he get?***
31.*Ty Montgomery GB vs. NO
Note: (Ribs) Full participant at Wednesday's practice.
32.Tevin Coleman ATL at NE
33.Frank Gore IND vs. Jax
34.Mike Gillislee NE vs. Atl
Note: Buried in favor of Dion Lewis after losing a fumble in the first quarter, resurfacing next in the fourth quarter.
35.James White NE vs. Atl
36.*DeMarco Murray TEN at Cle
Note: (Hamstring) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Just a limited practice Friday, but expects to play. Very dicey call here - similar to the setup before the Seattle game. Keep in mind that Henry also got banged up early in that Seattle game.***
37.Eddie Lacy SEA at NYG
38.*Matt Forte NYJ at Mia
Note: (Toe) Full practice Thursday, but Bilal Powell is also practicing now.
39.Javorius Allen BAL at Min
40.Marlon Mack IND vs. Jax
Note: Ripped off 22 yards on his first carry ... and then got one more carry the rest of the game.
41.*Wendell Smallwood PHI vs. Was
Note: (Knee) Practiced Tuesday, expects to play Monday night against the Redskins. Full practice Thursday. ***Even though he's listed as questionable, he had full practices all week.***
42.Latavius Murray MIN vs. Bal
43.Thomas Rawls SEA at NYG
44.Giovani Bernard CIN at Pit
45.Mike Tolbert BUF vs. TB

48.Matt Breida SF vs. Dal
49.Samaje Perine WAS at Phi
50.Jalen Richard OAK vs. KC
51.*Bilal Powell NYJ at Mia
Note: (Calf) Expected to return to action this week - but how much of a role is uncertain.
52.*Jamaal Charles DEN at LAC
Note: The Broncos are expected to 'gradually increase' Charles' workload.
53.Tarik Cohen CHI vs. Car
54.Wayne Gallman NYG vs. Sea
55.*Devontae Booker DEN at LAC
Note: Made his first contribution of the season Sunday night, with 78 receiving yards, mostly towards the end of the game.
56.*Elijah McGuire NYJ at Mia
Note: Bilal Powell will return to action this week, likely limiting McGuire's opportunities.
57.Jeremy Hill CIN at Pit
58.Jacquizz Rodgers TB at Buf
59.Corey Clement PHI vs. Was
60.Damien Williams MIA vs. NYJ
61.*J.D. McKissic SEA at NYG
Note: Prosise is on pace to return this week, which could leave McKissic as a healthy scratch. ***Not so fast. It appears that Prosise might yet be inactive or extremely limited. Alas, that's not enough for me to start McKissic either.***
62.*C.J. Prosise SEA at NYG
Note: (Ankle) Coach Pete Carroll expects Prosise to return this week. Then again, he was oddly optimistic before the bye week when Prosise sat out. Limited practice Wednesday. ***It appears that he'll either be limited or inactive after all.***
63.Austin Ekeler LAC vs. Den
64.Jamaal Williams GB vs. NO
65.Kenyan Drake MIA vs. NYJ
66.Charles Sims TB at Buf
67.James Conner PIT vs. Cin

69.*Benny Cunningham CHI vs. Car

70.Corey Grant JAC at Ind
71.*Darren McFadden DAL at SF
Note: All that thought on McFadden vs. Morris will also be stayed.

Note: (Ribs) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***No longer on the injury list, but no guarantee that he'll be added to the mix.***
74.*Andre Ellington ARZ at LAR

75.*Paul Perkins NYG vs. Sea
Note: (Ribs) Limited at Wednesday's practice. ***Ruled out again this week.***
76.*Leonard Fournette JAC at Ind
Note: Fournette still expects to play this week after spraining his ankle late in Week 6 against the Rams. Didn't practice with the team Wednesday or Thursday, but ran on the side. He remains adamant that he's available to play. ***Now expected to miss this week's game, with the Jags heading into the bye next week.***
77.*Terrance West BAL at Min

Note: (Ankle) Didn't practice last week, but is expected to practice this week. Remember, however, that the Redskins don't play until Monday night, giving you fewer late swap opportunities. Limited at practice Thursday. If he gets in full practices later this week and is expected to play, I'd put him in around 35 or so, and drop Perine 20 spots. ***Expected to play (and start), but how many snaps will he get?***
73.*DeMarco Murray TEN at Cle
Note: (Hamstring) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Just a limited practice Friday, but expects to play. Very dicey call here - similar to the setup before the Seattle game. Keep in mind that Henry also got banged up early in that Seattle game.***

96.*Laquon Treadwell MIN vs. Bal
Note: ***Getting the start with both Diggs and Floyd inactive.***
