Weekly Rankings: Week 7 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update Complete (9:00 a.m. PT)

Bye Week - Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Green Bay.

Buffalo and Jacksonville play at 9:30 ET in London.

Here are our rankings for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: four points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues.

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings, roughly around 10:00 pm PT - it used to be 8:00, but life intervenes, and I coach two soccer practices on Tuesdays now. ***These are not draft rankings. They are solely for the given week of the season.***

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the

Quarterback

1.Andrew Luck IND vs. NO
2.Philip Rivers SD vs. Oak
Note: Threw the ball a whopping 65 times in the loss to the Packers. It doesn't look it will slow down over the next three weeks for Rivers, judging by his opponents. He faces Oakland, Baltimore and Chicago over the next three weeks.
3.Carson Palmer ARZ vs. Bal
4.Drew Brees NO at Ind
5.Tom Brady NE vs. NYJ
6.Blake Bortles JAC vs. Buf
7.Cam Newton CAR vs. Phi
8.Eli Manning NYG vs. Dal
Note: Manning faced a lot of pressure against the Eagles' pass rush Monday night and produced diminishing returns after a strong opening drive.
9.Joe Flacco BAL at Ari
10.Russell Wilson SEA at SF
Note: On the bright side, Wilson found Jimmy Graham more often, but he also was sacked four more times. He gets the short rest week against the Niners this week.
11.Matt Ryan ATL at Ten
12.Ryan Fitzpatrick NYJ at NE
13.Matthew Stafford DET vs. Min
14.Derek Carr OAK at SD
15.Ryan Tannehill MIA vs. Hou
16.*Landry Jones PIT at KC
Note: Will start if Big Ben can't play - might have played even if Vick were not hurt.
17.Nick Foles STL vs. Cle
18.Brian Hoyer HOU at Mia
Note: Hoyer has been named the starter permanently by coach Bill O'Brien.
19.Josh McCown CLE at StL
20.Teddy Bridgewater MIN at Det
21.Jameis Winston TB at Was
22.Alex Smith KC vs. Pit
23.*Zach Mettenberger TEN vs. Atl
Note: Splitting first-team practice reps with Marcus Mariota this week - the team will name the starter towards the end of the week as they figure out more how Mariota's knee reacts.
24.*EJ Manuel BUF at Jax
Note: Starting again this week after Tyrod Taylor was ruled out. He has a good matchup, albeit one where he's going to be without Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin. ***The Bills will be without their RT and RG, in addition to the two WRs.***
25.Kirk Cousins WAS vs. TB
26.Matt Cassel DAL at NYG
27.Sam Bradford PHI at Car
28.Colin Kaepernick SF vs. Sea
29.*Ben Roethlisberger PIT at KC
Note: (Knee) Status for this week uncertain until he tries to practice again this week, but he plans to practice Wednesday. Not yet ruled out this week, but he has been limited in practice both days and the Steelers are still preparing Landry Jones to start. ***Will not play this week. The Steelers promoted Tyler Murphy from their practice squad to back up Landry Jones.***
30.*Marcus Mariota TEN vs. Atl
Note: Suffered a sprained MCL in the loss to Miami and didn't miss time. He will split first-team reps with Zach Mettenberger this week in practice. Has not practiced yet, but described his recovery and chances of playing as 'pretty good.' The Titans' coaching staff was more circumspect, so I'd still be pretty surprised if he plays this week. ***Officially out this week, but the Titans think he can return for Week 8.***
31.*Tyrod Taylor BUF at Jax
Note: (Sprained PCL) Taylor missed the Week 6 loss to the Bengals, but he's expected to return to practice Wednesday. Practiced Wednesday but had soreness afterward, and thus has been ruled out for this week.
32.*Michael Vick PIT at KC
Note: Vick suffered a hamstring tear and is out at least this week. ***Officially out for this week.***

Running Backs

1.Le'Veon Bell PIT at KC
2.Todd Gurley STL vs. Cle
3.Devonta Freeman ATL at Ten
4.*Arian Foster HOU at Mia
Note: (Groin) Limited Wednesday, full practice Thursday - look for this to be the standard operating procedure for the bulk of the season.
5.*Adrian Peterson MIN at Det
Note: (Finger) Two limited practices so far ths week - but he had a big game against the Lions in Week 2. ***Downgraded to questionable because of an illness, but still expected to play.***
6.Mark Ingram NO at Ind
7.Chris Ivory NYJ at NE
8.Latavius Murray OAK at SD
9.Lamar Miller MIA vs. Hou
Note: It's funny what happens when a good running back is given plenty of carries to establish himself early on.
10.Doug Martin TB at Was
11.*Marshawn Lynch SEA at SF
Note: (Hamstring) Full participant in Monday's practice. Listed as probable.
12.LeGarrette Blount NE vs. NYJ
13.LeSean McCoy BUF at Jax
Note: McCoy had all 17 of the Bills' carries and looked pretty good in the process. His next opponent, Jacksonville, is actually pretty good against the run in games not involving the Patriots, so he might not get that many carries and instead get his touches in the passing game. ***Limited in Friday's practice, but active for Sunday and still expected to get a full share of carries.***
14.DeMarco Murray PHI at Car
Note: Murray had his first 100-yard game as an Eagle on Monday night, with most of his production coming in the second half. He got away with a fumble early in the game.
15.Frank Gore IND vs. NO
Note: Looked good before the Colts abandoned the run in the second half.
16.Jonathan Stewart CAR vs. Phi
17.Justin Forsett BAL at Ari
Note: Not only did Forsett (ankle) play last week, but he dominated the carries and was effective, gaining a combined 101 yards on 24 touches. Practiced Thursday - the team plays on Monday night.
18.Danny Woodhead SD vs. Oak
19.Chris Johnson ARZ vs. Bal
20.*Carlos Hyde SF vs. Sea
Note: (Foot) Would have been limited in Monday's practice if the Niners had practiced. He felt some pain in the foot during the win over the Ravens, but still managed to carry the ball 21 times. 'Good to go' for Thursday night, albeit in a bad matchup.
21.*Matt Jones WAS vs. TB
Note: (Toe) Full practice Wednesday. With Chris Thompson hurting, Jones could be back in the mix in a big way this week.
22.Rashad Jennings NYG vs. Dal
23.*Joseph Randle DAL at NYG
Note: ***ESPN's Adam Schefter is now reporting that Randle and not Christine Michael will start. That may not translate into a starter's workload, however.***
24.Charcandrick West KC vs. Pit
25.*Duke Johnson CLE at StL
Note: Injured his shoulder in the loss to the Broncos in the fourth quarter. He has no structural damage and is expected to play this week. No longer on the injury report.
26.Charles Sims TB at Was
27.Andre Ellington ARZ vs. Bal
Note: Had just one carry, though his 47 receiving yards helped cushioned the blow. Still, it's apparent that Chris Johnson will remain the starter.
28.*Theo Riddick DET vs. Min
Note: Perhaps in line for a bigger role, between the injuries to Zach Zenner (out for the year) and Joique Bell, and with Ameer Abdullah having ball-security issues. (Groin) Limited practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Limited all week, but listed as probable.***
29.*T.J. Yeldon JAC vs. Buf
Note: (Groin) Limited practice on Thursday - we won't know for sure on his status at least until after Friday's practice, perhaps not until game time - which remember is early. ***Limited practice Thursday and Friday, expected to play on Sunday and is listed as active.***
30.Isaiah Crowell CLE at StL
31.*Christine Michael DAL at NYG
Note: ***ESPN's Adam Schefter is now reporting that Joseph Randle and not Michael will start. That may not translate into a starter's workload, however.***
32.Ryan Mathews PHI at Car
33.Antonio Andrews TEN vs. Atl
34.*Alfred Morris WAS vs. TB
Note: Morris still couldn't get much done, with Matt Jones out and Chris Thompson getting hurt during the game against the Jets.
35.Toby Gerhart JAC vs. Buf
36.Shane Vereen NYG vs. Dal
37.Denard Robinson JAC vs. Buf
38.Knile Davis KC vs. Pit
39.*Ameer Abdullah DET vs. Min
Note: Fumbled again against the Bears, but still might not lose more snaps because Zach Zenner is out for the year. He suffered a stinger while trying to recover that fumble. Not listed on the initial injury report.
40.*Reggie Bush SF vs. Sea
Note: (Calf) Limited practice Monday, dealing with the short week, but a full participant in Tuesday's practice. Listed as probable for Thursday night.
41.C.J. Spiller NO at Ind
42.*Javorius Allen BAL at Ari
Note: Even with Justin Forsett being a game-time decision, he still got 24 touches compared to just five for Allen. There's still long-term upside for Allen, especially if the Ravens keep losing. Stay patient if you own him, thoug you'll have to stash him on your bench this week.
43.Thomas Rawls SEA at SF
Note: Had just one carry upon Lynch's return.
44.*Darren Sproles PHI at Car
Note: Sproles was briefly checked for a concussion on Monday night but was cleared and later returned to the game.
45.Dan Herron BUF at Jax
46.*Joique Bell DET vs. Min
Note: (Ankle) Full practice Wednesday, limited practice Thursday. ***Listed as probable.***
47.Khiry Robinson NO at Ind
48.Tevin Coleman ATL at Ten
49.*Branden Oliver SD vs. Oak
Note: Took over for Melvin Gordon in the second half last week and could get more carries this week if Gordon's ankle injury (or his fumbling problem) keep him on the bench.
50.Jerick McKinnon MIN at Det
51.David Johnson ARZ vs. Bal
52.Dexter McCluster TEN vs. Atl
53.Marcel Reece OAK at SD
54.Zac Stacy NYJ at NE
55.Robert Turbin CLE at StL
56.*Alfred Blue HOU at Mia
Note: ***(Toe) Listed as probable.***

58.Jonas Gray MIA vs. Hou
59.Andre Williams NYG vs. Dal
60.Darren McFadden DAL at NYG
61.Roy Helu OAK at SD
62.Benny Cunningham STL vs. Cle
63.Jonathan Grimes HOU at Mia
64.Fred Jackson SEA at SF
65.Fozzy Whittaker CAR vs. Phi
66.Bishop Sankey TEN vs. Atl
67.DeAngelo Williams PIT at KC
68.Cameron Artis-Payne CAR vs. Phi
69.Terron Ward ATL at Ten
70.Damien Williams MIA vs. Hou
71.Chris Polk HOU at Mia
72.*Anthony Dixon BUF at Jax
Note: Back to obscurity with LeSean McCoy back.
73.*Dion Lewis NE vs. NYJ
Note: (Abdomen) Saw less use than usual Sunday night - either because of his injury or because LeGarrette Blount was so effective.
74.*Melvin Gordon SD vs. Oak
Note: Benched in the second half after fumbling twice in the first half. (Ankle) Sat out practice Wednesday but returned to action Thursday. ***Officially a game-time decision, but NFL.com's Ian Rapoport suggests that he won't play.***
75.*Tre Mason STL vs. Cle
Note: (Ankle) Did not practice Wednesday. ***Did not practice all week.***
76.*Bilal Powell NYJ at NE
Note: Sprained his ankle against the Redskins, leading to Zac Stacy getting a big workload late in the game. Did not practice Thursday. ***Officially out.***
77.*Chris Thompson WAS vs. TB
Note: Day-to-day with a back injury. He was able to return to the game after leaving for a bit last week. (Neck/back) Didn't practice, and coach Jay Gruden said that Thompson is still dealing with significant swelling. ***Listed as doubtful.***
78.*Karlos Williams BUF at Jax
Note: (Concussion) Out again this week.
79.*David Cobb TEN vs. Atl
Note: (Calf) Returned to practice this week - the Titans have three weeks to evaluate, so he's unlikely to play this week. But the job is there for the taking.

Wide Receivers

1.*Julio Jones ATL at Ten
Note: (Hamstring) Returned to practice Monday. No longer on the injury report.
2.DeAndre Hopkins HOU at Mia
3.*Brandon Marshall NYJ at NE

Same routine as last week - no practice over the first two practices, but will do the walk-through Saturday, with the intention of playing Sunday. ***Didn't practice this week, listed as questionable, but expected to play.***
12.*Steve Smith BAL at Ari
Note: (Back) Returned in a huge way in the loss to the Niners.
13.Donte Moncrief IND vs. NO
14.*Julian Edelman NE vs. NYJ
Note: Suffered a finger injury that helped cause three drops, but he never left the game. Small downgrade with potential Revis shadowing, but at least he's not on the injury report..
15.Vincent Jackson TB at Was
16.*Keenan Allen SD vs. Oak
Note: Allen left with a hip sprain in the loss to the Packers, but not until after catching a ton of passes. He's expected to play against the Raiders. Has missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Limited practice Friday, listed as questionable, but expected to play.***
17.*Eric Decker NYJ at NE
Note: (Knee) Full practice Wednesday, limited practice Thursday. However, this appears to be a case of preventive maintenance rather than a setback. ***Listed as probable.***
18.*Allen Robinson JAC vs. Buf
Note: Robinson suffered a leg contusion in the loss to Houston, though x-rays were negative. Limited in practice two days in a row. ***Practiced Friday, listed as active.***
19.Michael Floyd ARZ vs. Bal
Note: Targeted eight times in the loss to the Steelers, and now draws a weak secondary in the Ravens. ***With John Brown hurting, Floyd becomes a really attractive play this week.***

Note: Hasn't officially taken over the starting job from Charles Johnson, but coach Mike Zimmer said he's leaving open the possibility. ***Named the starter ahead of Charles Johnson.***
31.Rishard Matthews MIA vs. Hou
Note: I underestimated Matthews thanks to the coaching change and the perceived rise of DeVante Parker, which clearly did not happen.
32.*Jeremy Maclin KC vs. Pit
Note: Left Week 6's loss to the Vikings with a concussion. Hasn't practiced yet this week. ***Limited practice Friday, listed as questionable. The Chiefs have indicated that he's expected to play, though they haven't officially announced that he's out of the concussion protocol. INACTIVE AFTER ALL***
33.*Dorial Green-Beckham TEN vs. Atl
Note: Should get more of a workload with Harry Douglas dealing with a rib injury, as should Justin Hunter.
34.*Steve Johnson SD vs. Oak
Note: (Hamstring) Limited practice Wednesday. ***Full practice Friday, expected to play.***

Note: Targeted eight times, but clearly a secondary option again with Steve Smith back.

37.*John Brown ARZ vs. Bal

Note: (Knee) Full practice Wednesday, limited practice Thursday. However, this appears to be a case of preventive maintenance rather than a setback. ***Listed as probable.***
39.Willie Snead NO at Ind

Note: (Thigh) Limited practice Thursday. ***Practiced Friday, listed as active.***
41.Frank Gore IND vs. NO
Note: Looked good before the Colts abandoned the run in the second half.
42.Jonathan Stewart CAR vs. Phi

Note: Had just one carry, though his 47 receiving yards helped cushioned the blow. Still, it's apparent that Chris Johnson will remain the starter.
78.*Theo Riddick DET vs.
79.Zach Ertz PHI at Car
80.Jimmy Graham SEA at SF
81.Travis Kelce KC vs. Pit
82.Jordan Cameron MIA vs. Hou
Note: Had a team-high eight targets in the win over Tennessee.
