Weekly Rankings: Week 6 Value Meter

Weekly Rankings: Week 6 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

***BYE WEEKS - New Orleans and Kansas City. First posted Tuesday, 10/7. Sunday Update Complete.***

Here are our rankings for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: three points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues.

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings, roughly around 8:00 pm PT. ***These are not draft rankings. They are solely for the given week of the season.***

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?".

2.Aaron Rodgers GB at Mia
3.Matt Ryan ATL vs. Chi
4.Andrew Luck IND at Hou
5.Philip Rivers SD at Oak
6.Nick Foles PHI vs. NYG
Note: Having trouble with the deep ball, in small part because he's not getting much time to throw.
7.Jay Cutler CHI at Atl
8.Eli Manning NYG at Phi
9.Russell Wilson SEA vs. Dal
10.Ben Roethlisberger PIT at Cle
11.Brian Hoyer CLE vs. Pit
Note: Hoyer isn't giving the Browns much reason to play Johnny Manziel right now.
12.Joe Flacco BAL at TB
13.Matthew Stafford DET at Min
14.Colin Kaepernick SF at StL
15.Andy Dalton CIN vs. Car
16.Ryan Tannehill MIA vs. GB
17.*Tom Brady NE at Buf
Note: ***Twisted his ankle in practice Friday. He's listed as questionable, but he's expected to start.***
18.*Teddy Bridgewater MIN vs. Det
Note: (Ankle) Did not practice Tuesday, even though coach Mike Zimmer said that he would have played had last week's game been on Sunday rather than Thursday. Full participant in Wednesday's practice. ***Listed as probable.***
19.Tony Romo DAL at Sea
Note: As usual, sat out Wednesday's practice but returned Thursday.
20.Kirk Cousins WAS at Ari
21.Cam Newton CAR at Cin
22.*Ryan Fitzpatrick HOU vs. Ind
Note: Showed up on the injury list this week with a calf injury, but had a full practice Tuesday.
23.*Mike Glennon TB vs. Bal
Note: 'Odds are' that Glennon will remain the starter for Week 6.
24.Blake Bortles JAC at Ten
25.Kyle Orton BUF vs. NE
Note: Struggled early and threw a pick-six, but rallied late, even though he led only one touchdown drive.
26.*Carson Palmer ARZ vs. Was
Note: (Shoulder nerve) Threw 20 light throws before Sunday's game. Palmer will need to get in a full practice before he's cleared to play. Limited to throwing at 35-40 percent capacity Wednesday. Really difficult to rely upon him yet, despite a great matchup. ***Practiced at '80 percent' capacity Friday, and now is in line to make the start, though the team won't declare a starter until just before kickoff.***
27.Austin Davis STL vs. SF
28.*Derek Carr OAK vs. SD
Note: (Ankle/knee) Limited in Monday's practice, but still expected to start this week. Still limited Wednesday, still expected to start. ***Listed as questionable, but still expected to start.***
29.*Charlie Whitehurst TEN vs. Jax
Note: ***Will start this week after Locker couldn't practice this week.***
30.*Geno Smith NYJ vs. Den
Note: Missed a team meeting Saturday, then got pulled in the loss to the Chargers. About the only saving grace was that Michael Vick wasn't better. He'll start again this week.
31.*Drew Stanton ARZ vs. Was
Note: Diagnosed with a concussion after leaving last week's game in the third quarter. Limited in Wednesday's practice. *** Cleared the NFL's concussion protocol, but a starter for Sunday's game hasn't been named yet. Right now the lean is Palmer.***
32.*Jake Locker TEN vs. Jax
Note: Suffered a bruised thumb in the loss to the Browns. He's still dealing with some swelling, though the good news is that there appears to be no structural damage. Wasn't able to practice Wednesday or Thursday. *** Did not practice all week, listed as questionable but isn't expected to start.***
33.*Michael Vick NYJ vs. Den
Note: Went just 8-for-19 and 47 yards while replacing Geno Smith.
34.*Logan Thomas ARZ vs. Was
Note: Pressed into action last week after Stanton left with a concussion, but looked out of place but for one throw. Both Palmer and Stanton are in question for this week though - do the Cards find a veteran off the street?
35.*Josh McCown TB vs. Bal
Note: (Thumb) Still not practicing.

Running Backs

1.Matt Forte CHI at Atl
2.Le'Veon Bell PIT at Cle
3.Marshawn Lynch SEA vs. Dal
4.Giovani Bernard CIN vs. Car
5.Frank Gore SF at StL
6.LeSean McCoy PHI vs. NYG
7.*Andre Ellington ARZ vs. Was
Note: (Foot) Limited participant Wednesday. *** Listed as probable. ***
8.*Arian Foster HOU vs. Ind
Note: (Hamstring) Limited in Tuesday's practice, but that might also be because the Texans have a short week. Listed as probable.
9.DeMarco Murray DAL at Sea
Note: About that plan to start limiting Murray's workload? Maybe next week. The Cowboys keep playing close games, giving them the incentive to give Murray the ball frequently.
10.Alfred Morris WAS at Ari
11.Eddie Lacy GB at Mia
12.Ahmad Bradshaw IND at Hou
13.Justin Forsett BAL at TB
14.*Andre Williams NYG at Phi
Note: Rashad Jennings is doubtful for this week and possibly doubtful for multiple weeks. Williams could be limited on third down due to his questionable receiving skills.
15.Ben Tate CLE vs. Pit
16.*Branden Oliver SD at Oak
Note: Huge performance after Donald Brown's injury, all the more impressive that it came against the Jets. Might be a multi-week run. Ryan Mathews hasn't begun running yet.
17.Bishop Sankey TEN vs. Jax
18.*Lamar Miller MIA vs. GB
Note: (Foot) Showed up on the injury report but was a full participant Thursday. Of greater concern is the potential return of Knowshon Moreno this week. *** Listed as probable.***
19.Stevan Ridley NE at Buf
20.Steven Jackson ATL vs. Chi
21.Chris Ivory NYJ vs. Den
22.*Zac Stacy STL vs. SF
Note: Injured his calf in the loss to the Eagles and will miss some practice time. ***Full practice Friday and Saturday, listed as probable.***
23.Doug Martin TB vs. Bal
24.Shane Vereen NE at Buf
25.*Ronnie Hillman DEN at NYJ
Note: Likely to be the starting running back with Montee Ball out due to a groin injury. Didn't get the goal line carries however - those went to Juwan Thompson instead.
26.*Fred Jackson BUF vs. NE
Note: (Ankle) Limited at Thursday's practice. ***Listed as questionable, missed practice Friday with an illness.***
27.*Matt Asiata MIN vs. Det
Note: (Groin) Listed as probable.
28.*Joique Bell DET at Min
Note: (Concussion) Cleared for physical activity last week, but not yet for contact drills. Full practice Wednesday. ***Listed as probable.***
29.Darren McFadden OAK vs. SD
30.Jeremy Hill CIN vs. Car
31.Trent Richardson IND at Hou
32.C.J. Spiller BUF vs. NE
33.Darren Sproles PHI vs. NYG
34.*Storm Johnson JAC at Ten
Note: Gerhart didn't practice Thursday after a full practice Wednesday. Could be in line for a bigger role. ***Gerhart out this week. All three of Johnson, Todman and Robinson will see action this week.***
35.Chris Johnson NYJ vs. Den
36.Antone Smith ATL vs. Chi
Note: Seems to have a big play every single week - would be interesting to see him get a bigger role.
37.*Knowshon Moreno MIA vs. GB
Note: (Elbow) Participated in team drills Monday with his arm in a large brace. If he could somehow return this week, he'd be way ahead of schedule. Limited practice Wednesday and Thursday. Could end up playing this week, but I'm waiting until after the Friday practice before I move him up significantly. ***Listed as probable.***
38.Dexter McCluster TEN vs. Jax
39.Lorenzo Taliaferro BAL at TB
40.Terrance West CLE vs. Pit
41.Isaiah Crowell CLE vs. Pit
42.Roy Helu WAS at Ari
43.Bobby Rainey TB vs. Bal
44.Benny Cunningham STL vs. SF
45.LeGarrette Blount PIT at Cle
46.*Jerick McKinnon MIN vs. Det
Note: (Ankle) Listed as probable.
47.Carlos Hyde SF at StL
48.*Denard Robinson JAC at Ten
Note: ***Gerhart out this week. All three of Johnson, Todman and Robinson will see action this week.***
49.*C.J. Anderson DEN at NYJ
Note: Inactive last week, but I've heard some discussion saying he was inactive because he doesn't play on special teams. That will be less of an issue while Ball is out. Expected to be the backup to Hillman, could be the goal line back.
50.*Theo Riddick DET at Min
Note: (Hamstring) Full practice Wednesday. ***Listed as probable.***
51.Jacquizz Rodgers ATL vs. Chi
52.James Starks GB at Mia
53.*Alfred Blue HOU vs. Ind
Note: (Knee) Limited practice participant Tuesday. Full practice Wednesday.
54.*Darrin Reaves CAR at Cin
Note: (Hip) Full practice Thursday.
55.*Maurice Jones-Drew OAK vs. SD
Note: ***Interim coach Tony Sparano wants MJD to get more touches. ***
56.*George Winn DET at Min
Note: Winn was the last running back standing after Reggie Bush's ankle injury last week.
57.*Jordan Todman JAC at Ten
Note: ***Gerhart out this week. All three of Johnson, Todman and Robinson will see action this week.***
58.Ka'Deem Carey CHI at Atl
59.Bernard Pierce BAL at TB
60.Devonta Freeman ATL vs. Chi
61.Robert Turbin SEA vs. Dal
62.Chris Ogbonnaya CAR at Cin
63.*Peyton Hillis NYG at Phi
Note: Currently the backup behind Andre Williams if Jennings is out, though the Giants also activated Michael Cox off the practice squad.
64.*Juwan Thompson DEN at NYJ
Note: Got a late touchdown instead of Ronnie Hillman last week - was that a function of the score, or a distrust of Hillman in the red zone? It might not matter regarding Thompson - it's possible that Anderson could slot over Thompson, even though Anderson wasn't active last week. (Knee) Didn't practice Wednesday. ***Listed as probable.***
65.Fozzy Whittaker CAR at Cin
66.Joseph Randle DAL at Sea
67.Stepfan Taylor ARZ vs. Was
68.Lance Dunbar DAL at Sea
69.Jonathan Grimes HOU vs. Ind
70.Latavius Murray OAK vs. SD
71.Daniel Thomas MIA vs. GB
72.Damien Williams MIA vs. GB
73.Silas Redd WAS at Ari
74.*Ronnie Brown SD at Oak
Note: Signed by the Chargers on Tuesday.
75.*Shonn Greene TEN vs. Jax
Note: Injured his hamstring Wednesday, did not practice Thursday. *** Doesn't expect to play this week. ***
76.*Reggie Bush DET at Min
Note: Injured his ankle in the loss to the Bills - we're awaiting the results of an MRI taken Monday. Sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday.*** Didn't practice all week, not expected to play. ***
77.*Donald Brown SD at Oak
Note: Brown's concussion set the stage for Oliver's heroics. Hasn't practiced yet this week. ***Officially out.***
78.*Toby Gerhart JAC at Ten
Note: Irritated his foot/ankle injury on the second carry of the game last week. He's slated to practice Wednesday. Full practice Wednesday, but didn't practice Thursday. ***Officially out this week.***
79.*DeAngelo Williams CAR at Cin
Note: (Ankle) Cast removed, but still wearing a walking boot. ***Listed as out this week.***
80.*Jonathan Stewart CAR at Cin
Note: (Knee) Closer to returning than DeAngelo Williams after practicing in limited fashion last week. Limited practice Thursday. ***Limited again Friday, listed as questionable.***
81.*Montee Ball DEN at NYJ
Note: Groin injury will keep him out multiple weeks - won't need surgery, but hate to hear that they have to ask the question. Current estimate is that he'll miss a month.
82.*Rashad Jennings NYG at Phi
Note: Suffered a sprained MCL that will leave him doubtful for this week. *** Officially out this week.***

10.Wes Welker DEN at NYJ
11.Golden Tate DET at Min
12.Julian Edelman NE at Buf
13.*Brandon Marshall CHI at Atl
Note: (Ankle) Not on the injury report - said this week that he was told that this was a four-week injury.
14.DeAndre Hopkins HOU vs. Ind
15.DeSean Jackson WAS at Ari
16.Larry Fitzgerald ARZ vs. Was
17.Reggie Wayne IND at Hou
18.Rueben Randle NYG at Phi
Note: The Giants are force-feeding Randle the ball - he's had double-digit target games the last three weeks. Still making bad route decisions, though.
19.*Percy Harvin SEA vs. Dal
Note: Three times he had touchdowns called back due to penalties. Cosmic payback for having his rushing touchdown against the Chargers hold up? (Thigh) Listed as probable.
20.Dez Bryant DAL at Sea
21.Steve Smith BAL at TB
22.T.Y. Hilton IND at Hou
Note: Had a touchdown called back in the win over the Ravens.
23.Brian Quick STL vs. SF
24.*Keenan Allen SD at Oak
Note: (Quad) Limited in Thursday's practice. ***Listed as probable.***
25.*Andre Johnson HOU vs. Ind
Note: (Ankle) Was rested for Tuesday's practice, as was Arian Foster - I'm assuming that he will still play, though he might be compromised. Didn't practice all week, listed as questionable.
26.*Mohamed Sanu CIN vs. Car
Note: Practically the last man standing with Green, Jones and Eifert out.
27.*Kelvin Benjamin CAR at Cin

32.*Mike Wallace MIA vs. GB
Note: (Foot) Limited practice all week. ***Listed as probable.***

Note: Getting crushed by the Cardinals' quarterback injuries. If Palmer returns, it should help him considerably.
34.Terrance Williams DAL at Sea
35.Roddy White ATL vs. Chi
36.*Michael Crabtree SF at StL
Note: Not many targets last week - was his foot a factor? Watch carefully in practice this week.
37.*Louis Murphy TB vs. Bal
Note: Could get a ton of targets this week, especially if VJax doesn't play. ***Both Evans and VJax are now expected to play, but it's uncertain if they'll get full snaps.***
38.*Cecil Shorts JAC at Ten
Note: (Hamstring) Full practice Thursday.
39.Eddie Royal SD at Oak
40.Sammy Watkins BUF vs. NE

59.John Brown ARZ vs. Was
60.Jeremy Kerley NYJ vs. Den
61.Jermaine Kearse SEA vs. Dal
Note: The good news was that he scored, but the bad news was that he was targeted just twice in a great matchup.
62.Anquan Boldin SF at StL

Note: (Hamstring) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday.
64.Jordan Matthews PHI vs. NYG

79.Santonio Holmes CHI at Atl
80.Danny Amendola NE at Buf

83.Jeremy Ross DET at Min
84.Corey Fuller DET at Min
85.Taylor Gabriel CLE vs. Pit
86.*A.J. Green CIN vs. Car
Note: Aggravated his toe injury stretching Wednesday, hasn't practiced this week and it doesn't look good for this game. ***Officially inactive this week.***
87.*Calvin Johnson DET at Min
Note: The Lions have suggested that they'll consider holding Johnson (ankle) out this week to give his injury a better chance to fully heal. He appeared to aggravate the injury last week against the Bills. I'm in full-on panic mode with Megatron - in the leagues where I own him, I'm not doing very well, and I can't afford another near-zero from him. Thus I'm looking to trade now, especially before he gets declared out for a week. It's a high-risk strategy, but on those two teams, there's no such thing as a long-term concern. Officially announced with a high ankle sprain, missed practice Thursday, seems unlikely to play. ***Officially inactive after being listed as doubtful.***
88.*Malcom Floyd SD at Oak
Note: Injured his calf in the win over the Jets. Limited practice this week. ***Officially listed as probable.***
89.*Andre Caldwell DEN at NYJ

92.*Jarrett Boykin GB at Mia
Note: ***Out again this week.***
93.*Harry Douglas ATL vs. Chi
Note: (Foot) Did not practice Thursday.
94.*Denarius Moore OAK vs. SD
Note: Healthy inactive before the bye, we'll see if a new head coach changes his status on the team.

Tight Ends

1.Julius Thomas DEN at NYJ
2.Rob Gronkowski NE at Buf
Note: On the field for a whopping 68 snaps, even staying in the game when it was well in hand.
3.*Greg Olsen CAR at Cin
Note: (Ankle) Sat out practice Thursday but expected to practice Friday. ***Limited practice Friday, listed as active.***
4.Martellus Bennett CHI at Atl
5.Dwayne Allen IND at Hou
Note: Has now scored in three consecutive weeks.
6.Jordan Cameron CLE vs. Pit
Note: (Shoulder) Had seven targets in his first game back - barring a practice setback, he's free-and-clear for me again. ***Listed as probable.***
7.Antonio Gates SD at Oak
8.Owen Daniels BAL at TB
9.Delanie Walker TEN vs. Jax
10.Heath Miller PIT at Cle
11.Larry Donnell NYG at Phi
Note: Is it too simplistic to suggest that Odell Beckham Jr. took all his targets, or was this an anomaly? I lean more towards the latter, but am pumping the brakes vis-a-vis his competition at the position nonetheless.
12.Jason Witten DAL at Sea
13.Zach Ertz PHI vs. NYG
14.*Jordan Reed WAS at Ari
Note: (Hamstring) Expects to return this week without a practice setback. ***Officially cleared to play.***
15.Eric Ebron DET at Min
Note: Had a TD reception overturned and ruled a drop - the takeaway here is that he's being looked at increasingly as a red zone option, important with Megatron hurting.
16.Clay Harbor JAC at Ten
17.Charles Clay MIA vs. GB
18.Garrett Graham HOU vs. Ind
19.Coby Fleener IND at Hou
20.Jace Amaro NYJ vs. Den

Note: Finally more active in the Pats' offense, with great results.
24.Austin Seferian-Jenkins TB vs. Bal
25.John Carlson ARZ vs. Was
26.Jermaine Gresham CIN vs. Car
Note: Gresham is emblematic of why Bengals fans can't have nice things. What a horrible drop against the Pats last week.
27.*Ladarius Green SD at Oak
28.Scott Chandler BUF vs. NE
29.Richard Rodgers GB at Mia
30.Rhett Ellison MIN vs. Det
31.Jacob Tamme DEN at NYJ

I'm in full-on panic mode with Megatron - in the leagues where I own him, I'm not doing very well, and I can't afford another near-zero from him. Thus I'm looking to trade now, especially before he gets declared out for a week. It's a high-risk strategy, but on those two teams, there's no such thing as a long-term concern. Officially announced with a high ankle sprain, missed practice Thursday, seems unlikely to play. ***Officially inactive after being listed as doubtful.***

Note: Getting crushed by the Cardinals' quarterback injuries. If Palmer returns, it should help him considerably.
64.Dwayne Allen IND at Hou
Note: Has now scored in three consecutive weeks.

Note: (Shoulder) Had seven targets in his first game back - barring a practice setback, he's free-and-clear for me again. ***Listed as probable.***

92.Heath Miller PIT at Cle

Note: Is it too simplistic to suggest that Odell Beckham Jr. took all his targets, or was this an anomaly? I lean more towards the latter, but am pumping the brakes vis-a-vis his competition at the position nonetheless.

Note: (Hamstring) Inactive in the loss to the Chargers. Limited practice this week, pointing towards returning. ***Listed as questionable, but active.***
