Roberts (shoulder) has been waived by the Dolphins with a non-football injury designation.
ANALYSIS
Roberts spent the entire 2019 season on the sideline after recovering from reconstructive shoulder surgery. He later signed with the Dolphins in the offseason, but apparently his health is still not up to par. As a result, he'ill likely need to fully recover before getting a new opportunity.

2017
A 2017 fourth-round pick, Roberts caught 13 passes in his two seasons with the Lions, who then attempted to trade him to New England in June. The deal fell through due to a failed physical, and the Lions ultimately decided to waive the tight end. The divisional-rival Packers placed a claim, only for Roberts to fail another physical in Green Bay. He's thus a free agent entering training camp and on the far edges of fantasy relevance.
Both Eric Ebron and Darren Fells - the Lions' top two tight ends in 2017 - were allowed to walk in free agency. This offseason, GM Bob Quinn signed veterans Luke Willson (Seahawks) and Levine Toilolo (Falcons) to take their places. However, Roberts can't be overlooked as a candidate to emerge as the No. 1 receiving option from the position, as neither Willson nor Toilolo have caught more than 20 passes in any season over the past three years. Not only is Roberts an above-average blocker, the second-year pro has already proven to be a red-zone nightmare after catching 16 touchdowns during his senior season at Toledo in 2016. No matter, there's a real chance that Detroit takes a committee approach at the position in 2018, which could limit the upside of all three simultaneously.
Roberts (6-4, 270) is a huge target with nice hands and a knack for getting open in tight coverage. Over 80 percent of his career receptions at Toledo went for first downs and the 16 touchdown receptions he posted his senior year was good for seventh-most in MAC history. He enters the 2017 campaign no higher than third on the depth chart behind Eric Ebron and Darren Fells, but the rookie's red-zone receiving prowess should help him carve out some sort of role on offense during his rookie season.
