Grant was waived by the Packers on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Grant had just signed July 26, but he was sent packing just two weeks later. The 27-year-old played just five games with the Jaguars last season, rushing for 40 yards on 13 attempts. Grant could be an attractive option for a team looking to bolster its running back depth, considering he's averaged 5.6 yards per carry during his career and has experience returning punts and kickoffs.

Grant totaled 414 yards and three touchdowns on 68 carries over his first three seasons, but the departure of veteran running back Chris Ivory (133 touches in 2017) presents an opportunity for the young running back. T.J. Yeldon is likely to be the immediate beneficiary of Ivory's departure due to his superior pass protection, but Grant exhibited some big-play ability last season (8.3 yards per carry) that could earn him more carries in 2018. Leonard Fournette will be the main cog in the Jaguars offense this season, but Grant could provide more value as a change-of-pace option if he can supplant Yeldon as the No. 2 back. Showcasing improved ability as a pass blocker in training camp could help Grant secure a more defined role heading into the season.
The Auburn product spent most of last season buried on the depth chart, but he finally got his chance late in the season. Grant carried nine times in a Week 16 win over the Titans and followed up with 122 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in Jacksonville's season finale against the Colts. Both Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon sat out that game, however, and both players, not to mention No. 4 overall pick Leonard Fournette, will open the 2017 season ahead of Grant on the depth chart.
After logging only six carries last season, Grant enters 2016 very much on the fringe of the roster. Jacksonville added Chris Ivory in the offseason to team with T.J. Yeldon, so Grant will likely have to beat out at least one of Denard Robinson and Jonas Gray to earn a spot as the No. 4 back.
The undrafted free agent was a long short to make the roster given the Jaguars' deep group of running backs, but earned his way largely due to his efforts as a returner on special teams. He'll handle kickoff return duties to start the season.
