Doncic secured a buyout agreement from Real Madrid on Saturday, allowing him to begin his career with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, according to freelance basketball reporter David Pick.
ANALYSIS
It was fully expected that Doncic would leave Real Madrid the moment he declared for the 2018 NBA Draft in late March. As expected, the talented wing was a top-five selection in the draft, landing with the Atlanta Hawks at No. 3 overall before being dealt to the Mavericks. With the buyout agreement in place, the reigning EuroLeague MVP could be able to start practicing with the Mavericks after receiving a letter of clearance from FIBA. Doncic's departure from Real Mardid will be offset by some degree by the expected return of Sergio Llull, the 2017 EuroLeague MVP who missed most of the 2017-18 campaign due to a torn ACL.
