Lydon led the 2016-17 Syracuse squad in rebounds per game (8.6) and second in points per game (13.2). He finished third in assists with 2.1 and field goals (4.4) per game. The Elizaville, New York native was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mention list. Lydon led the Orange to the NIT second-round game before losing to Ole Miss. He recorded a double-double in both NIT contests. Lydon announced that he would enter the 2017 NBA Draft after his sophomore season. Lydon was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the 2017 NBA Draft and then traded to the Denver Nuggets.

Lydon was let go to free up a roster spot for DaQuan Jeffries, who was claimed off waivers and signed to a two-way contract Monday. The 23-year-old Lydon sat out the team's final preseason game due to a hip injury, so he may have to prove his health before finding work elsewhere.

The Nuggets’ 24th overall pick in 2017, Lydon had his rookie campaign cut short after tearing his meniscus in January. He saw just two minutes in the NBA, spending most of his time in the G-League. There, he averaged 12.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.3 minutes. He was efficient as well, shooting 52.9 percent from the field and making 1.9 threes at 37.7 percent. Considering Paul Millsap’s presence, it will be tough for Lydon to find significant NBA run this season, though may have an opportunity to compete for some light reserve minutes.
Lydon was acquired on draft night from the Utah Jazz and the Nuggets are looking for the versatile big man to potentially solidify their frontcourt depth. Lydon will be competing with Trey Lyles, Darrell Arthur and Juan Hernangomez for reserve minutes, though he'll likely have a tough time cracking the regular rotation with so much depth at power forward. A 7'0” wing span is what makes him so intriguing, as he's a rare defensive-first player. That's evident by the fact that he averaged 1.0 steal and 1.4 blocks per game last season at Syracuse, in what's traditionally one of the toughest defenses in the NCAA. He also did that while adding 13.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game to his tally on an impressive 52 percent shooting. That being said, the 24th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft will likely have to settle for a developmental role in his rookie season and could potentially see time with the team's G-League affiliate.
