ANALYSIS
Huestis appeared in three games for Rio Grande Valley and tallied 6.7 points and five rebounds per contest over that span. He will presumably hit the available player pool in the future but is reportedly dealing with a season-ending injury of some sort that will likely keep him from taking the floor again this year.

Now entering his fourth season as a professional, Huestis only has seven total NBA appearances under his belt and the upcoming season won’t likely afford him many more. The 25-year-old remains under contract with the Thunder organization for the 2017-18 season but will likely spend most of his time in the G League with the Oklahoma City Blue, where he’s already played in 100 games over the past three years.
After spending the first year of his career with the Thunder’s D-League, the Oklahoma City Blue, Huestis, the 29th overall pick in the 2014, saw his first regular season action in 2015-16. However, he still ended up seeing most of his action with the D-League club, as he appeared in just five games with the NBA team. Huestis offers some decent outside shooting and defense on the wing, but his lack of a standout tool limits his appeal as even a low-end rotation player for the Thunder. He’s in good position to remain on the roster when the upcoming season begins, but he’ll likely be buried on the depth chart.
The 29th pick of the 2014 NBA Draft elected to forgo a rookie deal with the Thunder and spent his first season in the D-League with the Oklahoma City Blue, where he averaged 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.6 three-pointers in 33 minutes per game through 44 games played. Huestis started all but one game during his time in the D-League. The 6-foot-7 small forward, known for his defensive potential and rebounding skill, worked on expanding his shooting range out to the corners in 2014-15, finishing with a field goal percentage of 37 percent and a three-point percentage of 32 percent. One thing Huestis can improve upon is his free throw shooting after converting just 65 percent his attempts from the line last season. Unfortunately, a torn pectoral muscle has hampered his development this summer, as he was not able to play in any summer league games. Nevertheless, he signed a new four-year deal with the Thunder in July, and his invesment of playing a season in the D-League plaid dividends for Huestis. It's likely we'll see him in action during the preseason, but it's hard to imagine Huestis getting significant minutes on the Thunder this season with Kevin Durant, Kyle Singler, and Anthony Morrow ahead of him on the depth chart at small forward.
Selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Huestis agreed to sign with the team's D-League affiliate in order to free up a roster spot for the Thunder. He will look to improve his game, primarily on the offensive end, in hopes of earning a guaranteed NBA contract some time in the future.
