Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

The weather has gotten a little iffy in some parts of the country, but at least most games Sunday are starting in the afternoon. That always increases the chances of rain delays, as opposed to rain postponements. Here are some lineup recommendations for daily fantasy based on Sunday's 15 games. Maybe you'll get lucky and win. Hey, Clay Buchholz is starting Sunday, so anything is possible.

STARTING PITCHER

Aaron Nola, PHI at STL ($53): Nola is 25 now so it's not surprising he's off to a career-best start. He has a 1.99 ERA, and his 2.84 FIP is still rather impressive. He's doing this even though his strikeouts are down from his career average of 9.19 per nine innings so far. The Cardinals are middle of the pack when it comes to runs scored, which isn't a deterrent when talking about a starter like Nola.

Trevor Williams, PIT vs. SD ($39) Let's stay in Pennsylvania for my second pick at pitcher. Williams is off to a solid start, as he has a 2.72 ERA. He's also pitched better at home than on the road every season of his career. This is also a rather favorable matchup for the 26-year-old. The Padres were last in runs scored last season, and they are in the bottom five again this year.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KAN vs. NYY ($18): Perez has issues getting on base, but he has a lot of power for a catcher. He's averaged 23 home runs per season over the last three years, and his slugging percentage has increased over each of the last five seasons. Sonny Gray is in his first season as a full-time Yankee, and it's not going well. He has a 6.39 ERA and 5.20 FIP through eight starts.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. TEX ($19): Abreu has hit at least 25 homers every season of his career, and he already has eight this year. The big Cuban has also always hit lefties better than righties. Mike Minor is a lefty, one with a 4.77 FIP in his first season starting since 2014 at that. He's also allowed 1.45 home runs per nine innings this year, which certainly could bode well for Abreu.

SECOND BASE

Isiah Kiner-Falefa, TEX at CWS ($12): Due to injuries, Kiner-Falefa has found himself with a regular role with the Rangers. The 23-year-old has been decent, as he came into Saturday with a .254 batting average and .377 slugging percentage. Chicago's Reynaldo Lopez has a 3.50 ERA, but a 5.38 FIP. His career FIP is 4.68, and he's allowed over 1.30 home runs per nine innings in each of his last two seasons.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC at CIN ($24): Bryant has been one of the league's best hitters since he was a rookie. He has a career slash line of .289/.391/.532, and he's averaged 31 home runs per season over his first three seasons. Now he gets to go up against rookie pitcher Tyler Mahle, who has a 5.07 FIP this season.

SHORTSTOP

Dansby Swanson, ATL vs. MIA ($12): Swanson is back from the disabled list, which is good, because the first-overall pick of 2015 has turned things around after struggling through last season. Wei-Yin Chen has a career FIP of 4.30 and has given up 1.31 home runs per nine innings in that time. As for this season, he has an 8.96 FIP and has allowed a whopping six homers in 16.7 innings.

OUTFIELD

Charlie Blackmon, COL at SF ($21): Blackmon has averaged a slash line of .314/.376/.529 over the last three seasons. He's been even better than that the last two seasons on top of that, and he already has 12 home runs this year. Ty Blach has a career FIP of 4.35, and that's with some relief appearances mixed in. He's also only struck out 4.19 batters per nine innings in his career, so Blackmon should at least be able to put a couple balls in play.

Corey Dickerson, PIT vs. SD ($17): Dickerson currently has the best batting average of his career, and he's cut his strikeouts way down. He's always been able to hit for power, and in his last three full seasons he's had at least 24 home runs. The southpaw has also done better against righties like San Diego's Jordan Lyles. Lyles may be coming off a great start, but he's only had an ERA under 5.00 once in his career, and he had a 7.75 ERA last season.

Michael Conforto, NYM vs. ARI ($12): Through his career, Conforto's one issue has been hitting lefties. Against righties, he's been just fine, and he has a .480 slugging percentage in his career so we know he has some power. Clay Buchholz is a righty, and on top of that he is a 33-year-old pitcher who started the season on a minor-league deal. He pitched terribly for the Phillies in two starts last season, and this matchup could turn out great for Conforto potentially.
