Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Jon Lester, CHC vs. STL ($55): The Cardinals' offense was lights out against Jason Hammel on Saturday, but they are a completely different squad when facing southpaws. St. Louis checks in with a 21.4 percent strikeout rate against left-handed pitching and were already stymied earlier this month by Lester, who threw eight shutout innings. Lester also has a sparkling 1.86 ERA and .184 batting average against at Wrigley Field this season, along with a .242 wOBA.

Tyler Anderson, COL at LAD ($35): Anderson has done a number on the Dodgers more than once this season, which is not exactly surprising given Los Angeles has a league-worst .277 wOBA against left-handed pitching, along with a paltry .121 ISO and robust 22.7 percent strikeout rate. Anderson has scored 25 fantasy points apiece in each of his two starts against the Dodgers this season and could be set to provide another nice return at a modest price.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, WAS at PIT ($10): Ramos continues to be priced within striking distance of the minimum, making him a nice value play for either cash or tournaments against Pirates starter Tyler Glasnow. The rookie right-hander has struggled significantly over a limited sample against righty bats at PNC Park, giving up a .308 batting average and .415 wOBA. Meanwhile, Ramos has a solid .348 wOBA against right-handed pitching, along with a 34.7 percent hard contact rate.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS at CLE ($22) Abreu has been swinging a hot bat in recent weeks, making him jump off the page for a matchup against Indians starter Josh Tomlin, who has allowed a .326 batting average, .405 wOBA and 13 homers to right-handed batters at home. Those numbers could spell trouble against Abreu, who has a .307 average, .354 wOBA, 17 homers and 31.4 percent hard contact rate against righty arms this season, along with a .349 average and .412 wOBA over his last 21 games.

SECOND BASE

Ryan Schimpf, SD vs. SF ($13): The very hittable Matt Cain will take the mound Sunday in place of Johnny Cueto, prompting a major DFS upgrade for a number of the Padres' bats. Schimpf has one of the higher upsides, as he has a .372 wOBA and .311 ISO against righties, with those respective figures bumping up to .380 and .318 when facing that handedness at home. He's also made hard contact at a 39.5 percent rate against righty arms at Petco Park, while Cain has allowed a .391 wOBA to left-handed hitters on the road, along with a 20 percent HR/FB rate.

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. CWS ($17): Ramirez seems to often fly under the radar with the plethora of appealing options typically available at third base, but he draws a solid matchup Sunday. White Sox starter Carlos Rodon has given up a .358 wOBA and 21 homers to right-handed hitters this season, while Ramirez has a .365 wOBA against lefties that bumps up to .409 when facing them at home. He also comes in with an eight-game hitting streak, along with a .357 batting average and .391 wOBA over his last 21 games.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos Correa, HOU vs. LAA ($16): Correa has been battling some shoulder issues but was back in the lineup Saturday. He draws a tantalizing matchup versus rookie Angels starter Daniel Wright, who has allowed a .494 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road, along with a 39.3 percent hard contact rate overall. Correa's body of work against righties this season includes 15 homers, and he has a .362 wOBA and 36.7 percent hard contact rate against that handedness at Minute Maid Park.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA at MIN ($18): Cruz blasted a mammoth homer Saturday and could be in line for more of the same Sunday against Hector Santiago, who's served up 23 round-trippers, a 5.48 xFIP and 38.2 percent hard contact rate to righty bats this season. Cruz has bulldozed his way through southpaws this year, particularly on the road, where he's tallied a jaw-dropping .475 wOBA, .449 ISO, 1.172 OPS, 48 percent HR/FB rate and 39.4 percent hard contact rate.

George Springer, HOU vs. LAA ($15): Springer is another potent bat to trot out against Angels starter Daniel Wright, whose extensive troubles versus right-handed hitters was detailed earlier. Springer has a .331 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching, has hits in five straight, and is coming off a 4-for-5, 16-fantasy point performance Saturday that provided a glimpse of the upside he offers at a bargain price.

Adam Jones, BAL vs. ARI ($15): Jones represents a cost-effective way to get exposure to D-Backs starter Braden Shipley, who's given up a .425 wOBA, 5.15 xFIP and 41.8 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters. He's also been struggling over his last four starts, generating a 7.27 ERA and giving up a .373 batting average and .439 wOBA over the 17.1 innings during that span. Jones has victimized righties for 25 of his 28 homers on the season, while posting a .373 wOBA and 35.3 percent hard contact rate against that handedness at Camden Yards.
